My Little Sunshine Blog Hop Reveal

August 28th 2017

Welcome to my day of the Blog Hop, where I finally get to reveal the secret sewing I’ve been up to. (click here for the other blog hop posts)

It’s been a week of suspense as we see the special project each of the blog hoppers  has made with My Little Sunshine, the new fabric line by Cherry Guidry of Cherry Blossoms Studio. I shared a bit about her on my last post here. She designs for Benartex  and her style is pretty, sweet and fun! This line is no different with a baby theme covering onesies, animals and the alphabet.

Right from the beginning I knew I wanted to make a diaper bag.

These prints and colors in My Little Sunshine play so well together I wanted to display that in some patchwork shown on the front pocket of the tote. I also used the extra charm squares to make a little changing mat.

It fits perfectly into the back pocket.

I was inspired when I added the detail to the pocket because Rick Rack makes anything cuter!

I tried new techniques I hadn’t done before like the gusset zipper and the outside binding. It definitely is far from perfect but I love the happy colors and functionality of zippers.

I used some of the selvage on the zipper pull, just for fun.

The duck print is my absolute favorite. I used it on the outside pocket, lining and for the straps which I made extra wide, because the bag is pretty big and will likely be heavy for moms toting little ones and all their gear.

I added my label to the straps. I had a general idea for the bag but as I played with the fabrics it kind of evolved as I went. No pattern or videos! It is completely lined and quilted and I used Shape Flex for the pockets to give it some body.

Cherry picked the perfect colors that work for baby boys or girls, add more pink for girls and more blue for boys! It was so fun playing with her new fabric line.

And to celebrate Benartex is giving away a Fat Quarter bundle of My Little Sunshine to a lucky winner! The deadline is August 30th, US addresses only please. Just leave a comment telling me what print do you remember from baby days? Perhaps some of Cherry’s fabric will jog your memory?

My fixation with the duck fabric comes for a dress my neighbor gave my daughter with darling little yellow ducks, we still have it!

Good luck on the giveaway!

Winners will be announced here please make sure your email shows from the comments so I can contact the lucky winner!

My Little Sunshine Blog Hop

August 21st 2017

Welcome to my teaser post about My Little Sunshine, the new fabric line by Cherry Guidry.

Who is Cherry Guidry? She is a fabulous designer for Benartex fabrics. Her fabrics are soft on the eyes, enchanting and whimsical. It was Quilt Market 2014 when I met Cherry, I was drawn into her booth because it was so bright and cheerful and ended up staying quite a while. She was kind enough to share her journey into the quilting world with me and we became fast friends.

And speaking of bright and cheerful, her My Little Sunshine fabrics are adorable! The pleasant pastels in greens, blues, pinks, yellows and grays, feature all things “baby” plus elephants, monkeys and duckies, oh my!

It’s perfect for little nurseries for all the babies in your life. Cherry outdid herself creating with her new line (you may have spotted them at Spring Quilt Market in St. Louis in May) see how she showcased her fabrics right here.
